It has been a particularly busy launch day here at Greenhouse School Websites, with five new websites going live today, and it’s not even lunchtime.

From a colourful Bristol primary school to secondary schools in Surrey, the North East and on the south coast – plus a Teaching School Hub in Hull – today’s launches are a great illustration of just how varied a bespoke school website can be.

Although every website is built using the same easy-to-manage Greenhouse CMS, there is certainly no one-size-fits-all approach to the design. Each of these new websites has been created around the individual organisation’s identity, audience and priorities, with everything from scroll-free layouts and extra-wide photography to animated statistics and integrated social media.

Five launches in a single day also gives a flavour of just how busy our design and development teams are at the moment. Here are the latest websites to join the Greenhouse family.

Vantage Teaching School Hub, Hull

Based in Hull and serving schools across the area, Vantage Teaching School Hub needed a website that feels distinctly professional and education-focused while making a large amount of information easy to navigate.

The design is clean, contemporary and spacious, with strong headline messaging and clearly defined content areas rather than an overly busy homepage. The opening statement – “The Vantage Point from which to map your career in education” – immediately explains the organisation’s purpose, while its five key areas of work are given prominent, easy-to-find routes from the homepage.

One of the standout features is the use of animated statistics. Figures for ECF participants, NPQ participants and schools engaged with Vantage programmes animate into view, adding movement to the page while also giving visitors an immediate sense of the Hub’s reach and impact. Upcoming courses, testimonials and latest news are then incorporated into the design without losing the uncluttered feel.

Cobham Free School, Surrey

Cobham Free School in Surrey is an all-through school educating pupils from Reception right through to Sixth Form, so its new website has to communicate effectively with several very different audiences.

The extra-wide design gives the site a confident, modern feel and provides plenty of space for large-scale imagery. Rather than trying to squeeze everything into a conventional school homepage, the design makes good use of the available screen width and gives the content room to breathe.

Clear routes into the Junior Department, Senior Department and Sixth Form are particularly important for an all-through school, and these are brought to the fore so that parents and students can quickly get to the information relevant to them. Strong photography and a relatively restrained layout help give the site a more mature, established feel while still working for families with children as young as four.

It is a good example of how a school website design can accommodate a large and complex organisation without the homepage itself feeling complicated.

Whitley Bay High School, North Tyneside

Situated in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, Whitley Bay High School has a new website that makes full use of the school’s impressive photography, reputation and strong visual identity.

The extra-wide layout gives the website real impact on larger screens, with generous image-led sections and bold statements breaking up the homepage. Rather than filling the opening screen with small boxes and links, the design allows important messages to command attention and creates a much more contemporary, editorial feel.

That works particularly well with some of the school’s strongest messages. Its 2024 Ofsted comment that pupils “thrive in this school”, its position in The Sunday Times Schools Guide and comments from parents, pupils and staff are all given space within the design rather than being buried further down the website.

There is movement too, with animated statistics helping key figures stand out as visitors move through the page. Further down, an integrated social media wall brings recent Instagram content into the website, helping the homepage remain fresh and giving prospective families a more immediate glimpse of day-to-day school life.

The result feels appropriate for a large, high-performing secondary school and Sixth Form: polished and confident, but still focused on the students and the school community.

Hillcrest Primary School, Bristol

For something very different, Hillcrest Primary School is at the heart of the community in Totterdown, Bristol, and its new website has a bright, lively personality to match.

The colourful design feels unmistakably primary without becoming cluttered or childish. Large elements, strong typography and generous use of the full width of the browser give the homepage plenty of visual impact, while the school’s “Taking PRIDE in all we do” message sits prominently within the design.

Most unusually, Hillcrest uses one of our scroll-free homepage designs. Instead of expecting visitors to work their way through a long sequence of homepage panels, the key information is brought together within the initial screen. Quick routes to frequently used content such as mailbags, term dates, school meals and Arbor are immediately available, alongside the school’s live House Points.

It makes the site particularly quick and intuitive for existing parents, while the combination of colour, photography and the school’s identity still creates a strong first impression for prospective families. It is a very good example of a website being designed around how its audience will actually use it rather than simply following a standard homepage formula.

St Andrew’s CofE High School, Worthing

On the south coast in Worthing, West Sussex, St Andrew’s CofE High School has opted for another of our extra-wide designs, but the finished result has a very different character from the other secondary school launches.

The site takes a clean, spacious and confident approach, allowing large imagery and carefully chosen messages to do much of the work. The school’s “Aspiration for all from all” statement is given real prominence, immediately establishing the ethos before visitors move on to the Headteacher’s welcome and the wider school content.

Generous spacing and a relatively uncluttered structure give the website a calm, contemporary appearance. It avoids the temptation to place dozens of competing links above the fold, instead using strong visual hierarchy to guide visitors through the school story. That makes the site feel welcoming for prospective parents while retaining the professional look expected from a secondary school.

The extra-wide format is particularly effective here, giving photography room to make an impression and helping the website feel modern on today’s larger desktop screens while remaining fully responsive on mobiles and tablets.
