CMS Basics: Tips & Tricks Part 2: Images

We’ve designed the Greenhouse CMS to be easy to use and intuitive. But to make it even easier for you to manage your school website, we have made a series of short tutorial videos.

  1. Change Banner Images
  2. Creating a Photo Gallery
  3. Adding an Image

Change Banner Images in the Greenhouse CMS

“Banner images” is the term for the main gallery found on the home page; it can be quite small, all the way up to a full-screen background image. You can add up to five banner images to display. If you add more to the folder, only the first five will display.

First, click on “Manage banner images” under the “Images” menu tab. This page shows you the step-by-step instructions for adding new banner images, including how to crop images to fit. Additionally, this page tells you the dimensions that each picture should be. Watch the above video for a step-by-step demonstration of adding new banner images.

Creating a Photo Gallery in the Greenhouse CMS

There are two stages to creating a photo gallery for your school website. The first stage is to make the photo gallery. Once you have created a gallery, it will automatically display on the “Galleries” page, alongside any other galleries you have. However, photo galleries can be displayed on any page of your website; you just need to insert the gallery.

When you insert the photo gallery, it will look like the image below. Don’t worry though! On the live website, it will display the images in the gallery.

Adding an Image in the Greenhouse CMS

Often, adding an image to a page can help to break up long paragraphs of text, and can help to make the website more visually appealing. To add an image, click on the Insert/edit image button, which will bring up the add/image box. Click the search button, which opens the image manager, and then upload the photo you want to use; click insert and then ok to add the image to the page. After you have added the image, you can add styling and formatting by selecting “Formats” then “image styles” from the menu; there are a number of different alignment and border options to choose from. Once you have made your changes, don’t forget to click Save!
