These include enhanced animations; target boxes such as “read more” and “all news” change colour from yellow to blue (and vice versa) when hovered over. School performance statistics are presented in animated shields, the shields fill up to match the percentage displayed.

When first landing on the website, visitors are presented with a full screen photo background. This is overlaid at the bottom with the school’s slogan “educating for life”, and with changing quotes.

Sometimes it is the little details that help to raise a website to the next level; a small school badge can be found on the join between each panel on the homepage, and panel edges are curved, rather than the standard straight design.

Belmont Primary School

This lovely school website design uses navy blue and a vibrant yellow. Belmont Primary School chose to have a box of changing quotes featured prominently on the homepage of their website. Additionally, the home page features a noticeboard, upcoming diary dates and latest news. In the footer is a ‘Get Directions’ button, which takes visitors to google maps with directions to the school.

Claverdon Primary School

The school’s logo (originally designed by the pupils of the school) was the source for the colour scheme of Claverdon Primary School’s website. The homepage features three pop-out tabs, including one for diary dates, and another for latest news, as well as the more common Quick Links tab. The fourth tab is a social wall, displaying the school’s twitter account across the whole screen when clicked on. The homepage also features changing quotes from Ofsted.

Baring Primary School

An illustrated header is the first thing visitors see when arriving on the Baring Primary School home page. A pastel colour scheme of blue, pink and green creates a whimsical feel that works really well on a primary school website. You can find the school’s social media wall on the right, which displays the school’s tweets.

Portesbery Primary School

The homepage of this website features a section for “Our Aims”. Here we chose to use understated animated boxes to show off the school’s individual aims. A full screen photo background and animated boxes and buttons have helped to modernise this website. The school’s sunny logo inspired several elements of the design, such as the sun shaped Facebook button on the home page, and the cheery yellow filter used on some of the picture panels.

St. Edward’s Royal Free Ecumenical Middle School

Visitors to this school website are met with a full screen photo background displaying professional quality photographs of students from the school. Scrolling down, you can see a box for diary dates and another for Newsletters. The diary dates box was an important feature for the school, and they opted to have space for up to six diary dates, rather than the more common options of three or four dates. ‘Diary’ is also a dedicated menu tab. The website uses several shades of blue taken from the school’s uniform, creating a monochromatic and professional look. Overall, we are really happy with this school website design.

Is your school website overdue a new design?
